SSI and Home Ownership

Receipt of SSI and home ownership are compatible.  You must be disabled to get SSI.  You must also have financial need. If you are single,  you cannot own more than $2,000.00 in stuff.  If you are married, you cannot own more than $3000.00 in stuff.  However, some of your stuff does  not count toward the allowed amount.   Items that do not count include the home you live in and the land it is on.  Your furniture and other household goods do not count toward the limit. Things that social security does count includes cash, bank accounts, stocks, and bonds.
